Omnitrans Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Fare and Service Changes

Omnitrans welcomes your input on proposed fare and service changes at our upcoming public hearing and outreach sessions, scheduled April 2-10, 2019 throughout the San Bernardino Valley (schedule below). Proposed changes coincide with regularly scheduled service changes in September 2019 and May 2020.

Proposals for Consideration

  • To maintain bus service levels as operating costs rise, Omnitrans recommends a fare change effective September 2019. It has been five years since the last fare increase, in 2014. The chart below details the proposed fare changes:
  Current Fare Proposed Fare
Single Ride
Full-Fare $1.75 $2.00

Full-Fare $16.00 $18.00
Senior/Disability/Medicare/Veteran $7.00 $8.50
1-Day Pass
Full-Fare $5.00 $6.00

Senior/Disability/Medicare/Veteran $27.50 $30.00
Youth $41.00 $45.00
  • Eliminate sale of 7-Day passes onboard the bus to improve passenger boarding time and avert delays. 7-Day still would be available for sale at the San Bernardino Transit Center, at bus pass outlets (see Bus Book pg. 2 for list of outlets), and digitally on the Token Transit app. (September 2019)
  • Eliminate Freeway Express Route 208 connecting Yucaipa, Redlands, and San Bernardino due to low ridership. (September 2019)
  • Adjust routing on Route 22 to serve the new Renaissance Marketplace in Rialto. View Map (September 2019)
  • Adjust routing on the current Route 11, and rename to Route 12. The route adjustment would directly connect Fontana Metrolink Station and Cal State University, San Bernardino, and serve major employment centers, including Amazon warehouses and the Renaissance Marketplace. Route would no longer connect at the San Bernardino Transit Center. View Map (September 2019)
  • Increase morning and evening frequency of Route 83 from 60 to 30 minutes. (May 2020)

  1. So how much is the fare gonna be now? My only thing is I understand about the fare, but when are you people gonna start holiday service? I guess when helll freezes over which will a long wait. Our transportation factor is one of the most pitiful in the nation.

    • Hi, Jose. Proposed fare changes are on the right side of the table in the article. As for holiday service, we are regularly seeking to identify the resources to provide service on all 365 days of the year. We will keep your request on file to further justify the desire for holiday service should the financial constraints change.

  2. I think there will less people on the bus because people can hardly pay the prices as it is i think that they should be lower not higher

  3. Decrease multi day passes. Increase single day passes. That cause an increase in monthly sales.

  4. JOHNNY JIMENEZ

PEOPLE CANT AFFORD THAT RAISE PROPOSAL ON UR BUS FARE SO I DON’T AGREE ON RAISING UR FARES AT ALL ESPECIALLY FOR SENIORS AND DISABLED PEOPLE

  5. Richard Wilcox

Costs do go up and needto taken care of. Yes the increases are justified.

  6. Shelia Thompson

Don’t think it should be raised because the service is poor improve service before asking for more money

  7. The $2.00 hike for regular one way seems, because people with no change pay that anyway. The $5.00 all day pass should NOT change until the next time you have an increase.

  8. Brent Langrehr

I don’t think the rate hike makes that much of a difference. If Omnitrans needs to raise their rates for better service then so be it. It’s currently faster for me to ride my bike to work than ride Omnitrans. It’s an hour difference for just 9 miles.

  9. How does foothill transit cost 1.50 a ride but Omnitrans wants to up the price to $2 and the buses are of lower quality as well

    • They pay a lot more in sales taxes – 2% – than San Bernardino County does. More of that goes to transit than in SB. You get what you pay for.

  10. Nah just keep the prices the same

  11. That rate is to high some people can’t even Afford the 1.75 rate that is now

  12. I can hardly afford the bus prices as it stands now, this is ridiculous. Last summer I spent over 50 dollars just on the bus.

  13. I think the bus fair increase is good however you did not indicate how it will effect those in the go smart program. Please provided info on how this will effect college students for there semester tutotion transportstion rates.

Also you need to reduce the amount of time any route 7 bus is sitting st the transit center on saterdays this way those who need to be somwere are not having to use more expensive way to get where they need to go. Please make a adjustment for this and start the rout in the morning 1 house earlier and go st lest 1-2 houers latter in the day so that people can go to a baseball game or other activity without being left with no way home. Also it would be helpful if you had a agreement with the 66ers to expend all bus routes to run up to 2 houers after the last play of each game so that no one has to leave early and still be able to get home before the last bus of the day.

Also there needs to be a change to make it where people are refused service if they are not properly using a weelchsir this means acutely sitting in it like it is intended for not to push around your belongings no matter if they are homeless are not as this takes up valuable seating.

    • GoSmart fees are agreed upon when the contract is renewed at the time of student elections. That will not be affected by these fare changes. We will forward your feedback to our service planning team. Thank you!

  14. That’s ridiculous. Transportation in this country is a joke. Do they think we’re made of money?

  15. I think raising the prices is very stupid. Why? What for? People don’t even ride the bus as it is because of the poor services. This area sucks for transportation. That’s coming from me as a disabled visually impaired person. No one wants to come down here because of this bus system. It’s just easier to take Lyft or Uber. Yeah it’s more expensive but better then having to pay $0.90 for 4 buses just to make a trip there and back. Hour by hour. I have so many complaints for Omnitrans.

  16. Mabe Villanueva

En mi opinión lo de las tarifas esta muy bien antes ustedes mejoren sus servicios tratar con respeto a los usuarios. Mantener los autobuses limpio.

  17. I agree omnitrance transportation is a true blessing to us people who own cars the bus drivers are worthy of there wages and increase in bus fare is well deserved and the sbx is awesome ,thank you Omnitrance

  18. Increase the single pass day is not a good idea what about of holidays service or some holidays services?

  19. I’m concerned about the route 12 reroute threw N. Linden Ave from Baseline Ave and Rialto Ave. I understand that we need to connect people to the new warehouses along with the new shopping center, but I’m worried about the bus going threw that stretch of N Linden. It’s a residential area, and it will only add more traffic. I believe a reroute on Baseline and Cedar Drive will be more ideal (instead of going down on N. Linden on Baseline, you can reroute the bus threw Cesar on that stretch by making a left and then a right on Cedar Ave). I may have to mobilize my neighbors and get their opinions. I’m just not happy about having a bus going threw there and my house.

  20. Atheistically Yours

Any and EVERY fare increase proposal should be equaled with an equal reduction in Omnitrans executive salaries! Let’s see how long they keep raising fares for with THAT as an “equalizer”!

  21. javier navarro

I am okay with the fare increase as long as I can used my two dollar bills. Also can you guys implement something along the lines of a compass card that can also be used with the RTA buses? when I am in San Diego county, I use my compass card to jump from the MTS trolley to the MTS buses and then to the North County transit buses. It would be great of RTA/Omnitrans offered something similar
