Buster’s Destinations: Your Ticket to the Beach!

What’s summer in SoCal without the beach?! There are two weekends left to take advantage of our Summer Youth Fare and Buster highly recommends making a day trip of this one and escaping from the IE to San Clemente for a day of the stunning California beach life.

The high temps plus road rage on the freeways make an unpleasant combo. And then having to hunt for parking? No way, man – Buster prefers to chill out! Just like he did this past weekend, leave all the traffic behind and take off for paradise via Omnitrans and Metrolink. Omnitrans youth rides are only $1 this month, and for only $10, a Metrolink day pass good for unlimited rides on Saturday or Sunday on the beach trains will take you there. What a bargain!

On Saturday, Buster grabbed his sunscreen and boogie board, and hopped on Omnitrans Route 1. He rode to the Metrolink San Bernardino Station where he caught the 9 a.m. Inland Empire-Orange County Line train. It was a relaxing train ride, consisting of Yelp-ing for food spots, listening to music, and even a quick nap! At 11:13 a.m., the train arrived at San Clemente, just in time to soak up the peak hours of the sun.

Buster walked only a few short steps from the Metrolink station to the beach. He staked out the perfect spot on the sand, laid down his beach towel and headed straight for the water for some boogie boarding! He worked up an appetite and headed to the Pier for a quick snack, watching people go by on their beach cruisers.

After a couple more hours of riding the waves, it was time to head back home. Buster escaped the sun to cool down with a treat at Ice Cream & Coffee Bistro, across from the Metrolink station on Avenida Victoria. It was the perfect ending to a day of catching rays!

Buster boarded the 4:47 p.m. train back to San Bernardino. On the ride back, he relaxed and sighed happily as the train passed up cars sitting in traffic. He was back in San Bernardino by 7:15 p.m., where he boarded Omnitrans back home, feeling happy and satisfied with another item checked off his summer bucket list. Cowabunga, dudes and dudettes!

Tell us – where are you riding Omni to this summer?

The special Omnitrans Summer Youth Fare discount is valid through the months of June and July. Buster’s Destinations: Dance the Night Away!

After last week’s successful day of shopping, movies, and food at the mall, Buster was ready to check off another item off his summer bucket list: dancing under the summer sky with a few of his favorite peeps!

One day while scrolling through his Twitter, Buster found a cool list of free things to do this summer from PE.com. He noticed that Chino’s summer concerts in the park series happened on Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. and admission was free! So last Thursday evening he paid his discounted $1 fare onboard Route 85 (Routes 81, 83, 84, 88 and OmniGo 265 can also take you there) and headed for Chino City Hall to check out some live music!

It only took about 20 minutes from Rancho Cucamonga to the Chino Transit Center, only a shuffle away from the concert. Buster danced his little tires off with friends to the tunes of a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band, only taking a break from movin’ and groovin’ to grab a bite from one of the food vendors at the event.

After refreshments, it was back to the lawn where Buster reprised his favorite dance moves: The Mashed Potato, the Electric Slide and the Helicopter. Buster had a whale of a time that night dancing, listening to some cool tunes, and petting all the cute dogs. He can’t wait to return for the Queen tribute concert tonight. “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Are the Champions” make some iconic group sing-along moments!

This summer, Buster also plans to go back to the Redlands Bowl for their summer festival series, accessible via Route 19, plus a swift three minute walk. Check out the shows at your local summer concert lineups and ride Omnitrans for only $1 through the rest of July!

Buster’s Destinations: Shop. Watch. Eat. Repeat.

Right now is the time to get out and explore, but with the weather being just a little toasty out in the Inland Empire, air conditioned spaces sound like the way to go! After last week’s swim day out in Yucaipa, Buster decided to take advantage of the discounted Omnitrans Summer Youth Fare and venture out into the west side of the San Bernardino Valley for a day of shopping, eating, and movie watching!

Earlier this week, Buster slept in for a little bit (because summer!) and got up a little later than usual. He got ready, slapped on some sunscreen for sun safety (he likes to protect his fresh blue and green paint coat!) and headed to the San Bernardino Transit Center. There, he caught the 12:58 p.m. Route 290 bus, one of our Freeway Express routes, and was at Ontario Mills in about half an hour, and for only $1!

Buster has been on the lookout for some new aviator sunglasses for summer, so he popped into Sunglass Hut and checked out their deals. His summer wardrobe also needed a few more fun, tropical inspired prints so he browsed the selection at H&M for some fun shirts! All this shopping took a toll, though. He decided it was time to grab a bite and relax! At the food court, he was swayed by the delicious pizza scent of Sbarro. Bon appetit, Buster!

To avoid the heat out there, Buster walked over to AMC and caught a showing of the new Transformers movie. “Bumblebee ain’t got nothing on me!” he thought to himself. He thoroughly enjoyed the film and wants to get in on the next installment of the franchise – maybe even as a background extra? It was getting a little late, so Buster made his way to the Ontario Mills bus stop and caught the 5:58 p.m. Route 290 bus back to San Bernardino.

All in all, it was a day well spent! Buster can’t wait to do it again later this month before the Summer Youth Fare promotion ends on the last day of July. This time, he is thinking of heading to Citrus Plaza in Redlands via Route 15  and snagging some Back-To-School sale bargains, or maybe meeting friends for lunch as summer winds down. The destinations are bountiful with Omnitrans!

Buster’s Destinations: A Dip in the Pool

Beat the scorching heat and dive into the cool waters of your local swimming pool! Summer temperatures in the San Bernardino Valley linger in the high 90s and can often exceed 100 degrees. The weather could have you feeling parched and defeated, but with a number of pools available locally, and the Omnitrans Summer Youth Fare, cooling down is a breeze!

Last week, Buster couldn’t wait to escape the 109 heat while out and about. He packed his towel and swim trunks in his Omnitrans 40th Anniversary drawstring backpack, hopped on Route 19, paid his discounted $1 fare, and headed for the 7th Street Pool in Yucaipa. Happy as a clam to be inside the air-conditioned bus, he put his headphones on and listened to his Summer playlist on Spotify while enjoying the ride.

At Yucaipa Blvd. and 7th St., Buster got off the bus and walked down the street to the Yucaipa City Swimming Pool. He paid a small fee for recreational swim, and summer was now fully in session! Buster was excited to make a splash and try out the new rockwall and waterslide at the pool while making new friends and taking poolside photos for his Instagram story! It was all fun in the sun indeed.

Buster also recommends the Jerry Lewis Family Swim Center in San Bernardino, serviced by Route 1! Other community swimming pools can be found here, courtesy of IEShineOn.com.
