An Omnitrans “Found” Story

DSC_0372Tiffany Holsomboch is awesome. At least her ex-boyfriend’s mom thinks so. She gave Tiffany a pretty fabulous spiked purse with a ring clasp as an early birthday gift about a week ago. So naturally Tiffany felt horrible when she accidentally lost the gift on the bus.

Tuesday night, she was riding the last Omnitrans Route 8 bus of the day. She had placed her purse on the seat beside her with her backpack on top of it. When she disembarked, she grabbed her pack and completely forgot about the purse.

Coach Operator David Castillo found the purse when he did his final bus check at the end of his run and turned it in to our Lost & Found.

I met Tiffany in the Omnitrans lobby where she was waiting to retrieve the lost item. “If nothing’s been touched,” she told us, “There should be a Hot Topic card, my Kickback card, Cingular cigarettes, a lighter and debit card in there”

DSC_0371She shrugs and laughs. “There’s only about 50 cents available on the card. So it’s not so bad.”

Tiffany finishes up her paperwork with the receptionist and takes her purse from the counter. “Here we go,” she says and opens it to look inside. She raises her head with a big grin and gives me a thumbs-up. “It’s all there!”

I congratulate her and admire the spiky black clutch with its long shoulder chain. “Oh you have to see the best part!” Tiffany exclaims. She slides her fingers inside the ring clasp at the top and poses while I grab a quick photo. Fun!

Happy birthday, Tiffany!  Here’s to happy endings, cool ex-mothers-in law, and good Samaritan coach operators.

Omnitrans rider loses wallet on bus 3 times–and gets it back!

Omnitrans passenger recovers lost wallet 3 times

Omnitrans Route 22 passenger Federico Gante has lost his wallet on the bus three times in the past four weeks. Each time it was found and turned in by someone on the bus.

“I don’t know how it keeps happening. I put it into my back pocket, and I guess it comes out of there,” he laughs. “I’m switching to another pocket now.”

Federico has been riding Omnitrans since he came here from Arizona back in February. He takes the bus every day to his job at  Papa Johns over on Pepper and San Bernardino.

“I’m the Dough Master,” he grins. “Anytime you order a pizza, I’m the guy that makes it for you.”

If you happen to see Federico on Route 22, be sure to say hi and remind him to check his pocket before leaving the bus!

Good Samaritans Save Teen Fundraiser

Receptionist Liz displaying the lost box of fundraising candy

What could have been a financial loss for one teen turned into a fundraising success thanks to the help of a few Good Samaritans here at Omnitrans.

Recently one of our coach operators discovered a cardboard box filled with fundraising candy on his vehicle and turned it into our Lost and Found. The side of the box was stamped Jurupa Hills High School Football, so our receptionist Susie called the school to let them know the candy had been recovered.

Receptionist Susie is always ready to lend a helping hand

The football coach remembered one of the kids asking what happens if you lose your candy, and how upset he had looked when he was told he would be financially responsible for it. He would definitely be relieved! Because school had just shut down for spring break, the high school coach made arrangements to personally pick up the box as soon as they were back in session.

When Susie heard about the boy, she felt badly for him and decided to help him by buying some of the candy herself. Soon other Omnitrans employees heard the story and they too bought some of the sweets to show their support.

Before long, entire box was sold and the money was put aside for the high school football team. When the coach heard what had happened, he was so thrilled he offered to drop off more.  Susie laughed and explained we don’t do that, but added  that everyone was happy to have contributed to a good cause.

Take the Facebook poll! Can you guess which of these unusual lost items was NOT recovered from an Omnitrans bus?
