When Apple launches its new iOS 6 software this fall, you will no longer find any connection to Google maps. Instead, it will be replacing its Android-making competitor with its own in-house maps that feature Siri as your guide offering turn-by-turn directions.
But what’s missing from the new Apple maps is the transit and pedestrian information that so many mass transit users have come to depend upon. Users will now have to rely on third-party developers for that information.
Metro Trip Planner
Omnitrans riders looking for an good alternative to Google Transit might want to consider Metro Trip Planner. This is the app that our call center uses. Simply plug in your location, destination and desired travel time, select bus and it pulls up your route information. If you click on the photo below, you will see that it even offers more specific details than Google Transit, including times, distance and fares for each leg of the trip.
