Navigating Omnitrans September service changes

Trying to figure out how the September 8th service changes will affect your daily trip? To help answer your questions, we’ve compiled a list of the most common destinations in East Valley and West Valley and the routes that will serve them.

EAST VALLEY

How can I get to San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino?
Route 1 now stops at Lynwood and Victoria, just outside the main casino entrance.

How can I get to the SB County Departments of Aging & Adult Services, and Public Health?
Route 8 provides service to Mill and Lena, serving both of these important service providers.

How can I reach Goodwill Industries, CID Center for Individual Development, the Arrowhead Vista Apts. and Andersen School
These 4th Street destinations, previously served by Route 8, can now be reached on Route 15.

How can I get to the San Bernardino International Airport, or Norton AFB area businesses?
Route 15 now serves the airport, old air force base, Stater Bros. headquarters and the San Bernardino Community College District previously served by Route 8.

Where do I catch the bus at Indian Springs High School?
Route 15 still serves Indian Springs, but instead of stopping in back of the high school (on the north side of the school), stops are now on the east side of the school, closer to main entrances and exits.

Where do I catch the bus near Aquinas High School?
The closest stop to Aquinas is now on Lynwood at the intersection of Lynwood and Del Rosa.

 How has service changed on 9th Street in San Bernardino?
9th Street is now served by several routes connecting to the San Bernardino Transit Center, instead of just east-west service on Route 15. You can now catch north-south service on 9th at Tippecanoe, Waterman, Sierra Way, Arrowhead, and D Street.

Why was the tripper to TEAM House eliminated?
The new Route 8 provides service within 1-block of the TEAM house with stops at Sierra Way and Mill. This new routing provide bus service within a block of team house every 30 minutes instead of a twice a day tripper from the old Route 15.

WEST VALLEY

How can I get to the Shoppes in Chino Hills, and Chino Hills City Hall?
Route 88 now serves both the Shoppes and City Hall, previously served by Route 65.

What’s the best way to get around on Central Ave.?
The new Route 85 travels along Central every 30 minutes, an improvement over the 60-minute service previously available on Route 65.

Which route serves the College Park community in Chino?
This transit-friendly community is now complete, and service is provided by Route 83. Service is extending south on Euclid Avenue, all the way to Eucalyptus Avenue, to serve this neighborhood.

What’s the best way to get around on Mountain Ave.?
The new Route 84 is dedicated to Mountain Ave., traveling from the Chino Transit Center on the south end to 19th Street and the Colonies in Upland on the north end. It doesn’t connect to the Montclair Transit Center, but it’s an easy to transfer to Route 66 on Foothill Blvd. or the new Route 85 at Arrow Route to get to Montclair.

How can I get from the Montclair Transit Center to Mountain Ave.
Just make a quick transfer to the new Route 84 from Route 66 on Foothill Blvd. or Route 85 on Arrow Route.

Which routes serve San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland?
Three routes still serve this important facility – but some numbers have changed. Route 66 still serves Foothill Boulevard, and new Routes 85 and 86 now serve the south side of the hospital on San Bernardino Road.

How can I get to the Maclin Open Air Market/Ontario Swap Meet
Great news – Saturday service is BACK on Route 81, which now serves the market on Riverside Dr., so you have even more time to shop! You also can connect to Routes 66 and 61 in Rancho Cucamonga.

Which route serves the Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink Station
Previously served by Route 81, you can now get there on Route 82.

How can I get to Victoria Gardens?
In addition to frequent service on Foothill, Route 82 now has two stops on Day Creek Avenue, on the west side of the mall.

How can I get to Alta Loma High School?
Route 67 no longer serves the school on Baseline Road, but Route 80 provides service to the school on Carnelian Avenue.

How can I get to my doctor appointments at the Rancho San Antonio Medical Center?
You now have your choice of two routes! Route 82, traveling on Church Street, serves the Center, as well as the new Route 85 on Milliken Avenue.

Can I still catch the bus on Victoria Park Lane (Rancho Cucamonga High School)?
Service between Day Creek and Milliken has been removed due to low ridership, but you can connect with the new Route 85 on Milliken Avenue to travel north-south, or with Route 67 on Baseline to travel east-west.

I’m a Chaffey College student, and attend classes at both the Fontana and Rancho Cucamonga campuses. How can I get there?
The restructured Route 67 now offers you a one-seat ride between campuses, connecting the Fontana Transit Center and Chaffey College along Baseline with no need for a transfer!

Omnitrans Coach Operator Nathan Weathersbee


“I always felt there was nothing I couldn’t do”

When Coach Operator Nathan Weathersbee came to California in 1962, he made
a promise to himself—that he would one day own a big house and have a pocket full of money. It’s a dream he’s achieved through hard work, determination and  an indomitable spirit.

Nate grew up on a farm in South Carolina with his parents and eleven brothers and sisters. They lived in a two bedroom house and slept three to a bed. The family had a cow, some crops and a handful of chickens that they managed to survive on. From the time he was little, he was out in the field picking cotton, corn or anything else that needed harvesting. He was always a quick learner, confident in his abilities and never one to let an opportunity pass him by.

Nate’s first experience with driving came when he was 8-years-old and taught himself how to drive the family tractor. Years later in high school he drove the school bus for the black students. Racial segregation permeated every aspect of southern culture in those days, and Nate was acutely aware of the limitations it imposed.  But his belief in himself never wavered. “It just made me stronger. I always felt there was nothing I couldn’t do, given the chance.” When he graduated high school in 1962 he decided to leave the south and move to California in search of new opportunities.

“My daddy had taught me how to cut hair when I was little,” said Nate. “And I actually became pretty good at it. I used to cut hair for all the kids in our neighborhood.“ When he got to California, he went to school to become a certified barber and had his own shop for several years. But when he had a family of his own and needed benefits, he decided to try bus driving again and went to work for the Metropolitan Transit Authority in LA for 11 years.

Nine years ago he joined the Omnitrans West Valley team. “I love coming to work. Every day is something different,” said Nathan. “I’m a people person, and you have to like people to be good at this job. In some ways barbering is not so different from bus driving. I can see in people’s eyes if they’re not happy or if they might be difficult. I talk to them with calmness and respect and they almost always leave my bus with a smile and a ‘thank you, bus driver’. In fact, every day before I get on the bus I say a simple prayer. God protect this bus. No harm, no accidents and no confrontations from anybody. Just let me have a peaceful day,” Nate smiles. ”And I do.”
