How to Ride
Using the Wheelchair Lift
Wheelchair Ramp
All Omnitrans buses are equipped with lifts or ramps to board wheelchairs and other mobility devices. The lift may be used by persons with disabilities who cannot use the steps to board the bus, including: riders using wheelchairs, scooters, orthopedic strollers or similar mobility devices; also, riders using walkers, canes, crutches, or portable oxygen units may use the lift as standees. Omnitrans buses may also "kneel" on request for easier boarding by orthopedically challenged riders; some stop locations may not suitable for the bus to kneel. Omnitrans drivers are not allowed to provide physical assistance on and off the lift/ramp or inside the bus.

The wheelchair lift is not for use by riders with shopping carts, wagons or regular baby strollers. It is also not to be used by Personal Care Attendants and companions of persons qualified to use the lift.
Wheelchair Lift/Ramp Capacity
The lift platforms on Omnitrans buses have been designed to safely accommodate wheelchairs and mobility devices that meet the following specifications: maximum dimensions of 30-inches wide by 48-inches long, and maximum weight of 600 pounds, including rider.
Preparing to Board with the Wheelchair Lift
Wait at the bus stop and indicate to the driver that you need to use the lift. Position yourself to be clear of the lift as it deploys.
Boarding with the Wheelchair Lift
Wait for the driver to tell you to move on to the platform. When on the lift, set the brake on your wheelchair or mobility device; if you are standing, hold onto the handrails for support. If you are using a wheelchair or scooter, once onboard move to the special seating area and set your brake; the driver will secure wheelchairs with either the clamp or belts provided. Pay your fare and tell the driver your destination so the bus can be positioned correctly at your stop.
Exiting with the Wheelchair Lift
Signal the driver about a block before your stop to remind the driver you want to exit the bus. The driver will allow other riders to board and exit before releasing wheelchair restraints. The driver will advise you when to proceed to the lift platform. When on a lift, set the brake on device; if you are standing, hold the handrails for support. Wait until the lift has reached the ground and the safety barrier has dropped before moving off the platform.
