Omnitrans, National Transit Ridership UpSAN BERNARDINO, CA, January 23, 2006 – Have you heard about the latest trend? Omnitrans, the largest transit agency in the nation’s largest county, is pleased to announce a trend of increased ridership for the fall of 2005. More customers took a ride on Omnitrans in October (2.9 percent), November (3.2 percent), and December (1.9) of 2005 in comparison to 2004
It is the agency’s first upward trend since 2002, and is consistent with national ridership numbers. While the industry as a whole experienced a downturn in public transit use post-9/11, ridership has rebounded in recent months. In fact, national public transit ridership increased by 3.3 percent during the third quarter of 2005 despite a drop in gasoline prices during the same period. More specifically, Omnitrans attributes its increase on factors including its September service enhancements, renewed marketing efforts, and ever-increasing Inland Empire traffic conditions. The largest gains in ridership have occurred on bus routes in Omnitrans’ western service area, which includes the cities of Chino, Fontana, Montclair, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, and Upland. “We’re gratified to see this trend, and I think it’s indicative of our communities’ need for convenient, efficient transportation alternatives,” said CEO/General Manager Durand L. Rall. “At Omnitrans, we plan to continue to work hard to provide both to the people we serve.” |
