Omnitrans Service Changes to Take Effect Monday

Omnitrans will enact service changes on Monday, May 7 that include the elimination of under-utilized bus service and decreased frequency on selected routes.

In response to growing demand, the changes also include increased, 30-minute service between San Bernardino and Riverside on Route 90, along with the elimination of service between San Bernardino and Montclair.

The service changes, as well as an upcoming July fare change, are designed to improve productivity levels in order to meet the California’s Transportation Development Act’s (TDA) 20 percent fare recovery ratio requirement. TDA money, which provides approximately 60 percent of Omnitrans’ operating funds, could be jeopardized if passenger fares do not cover at least 20 percent of operating expenses. The longer term plan is to achieve a 25% fare recovery ratio target by 2013.

“The decision to eliminate service is never an easy one. Since it became necessary for us, Omnitrans has made a concentrated effort to remove our least-used service in order to minimize any impact on our customers,” explained agency spokesperson Wendy Williams. “We’re pleased to be able to offer enhancements as well, such as Route 90’s increased frequency.”A list of service changes is included below. For information regarding all upcoming Omnitrans service and fare changes, please call 1(800)9-OMNIBUS or visit www.omnitrans.org.

Founded in 1976, Omnitrans is the award-winning public transit agency serving fifteen cities and the unincorporated areas of the Inland Valley of San Bernardino County in Southern California, operating fixed bus routes and demand response services in a 480-square-mile area.
