Omnitrans Seeks Student TV Stars
Omnitrans hosts second annual contest for local aspiring student filmmakers will create their own online Omnitrans commercial for a chance to see their work on TV and win cash prizes.
San Bernardino, CA – Starting this week, student filmmakers are putting their digital talent and imagination to the test to create a winning Omnitrans commercial that could earn them cash and the chance to see their original work aired on television.
Working with local schools, Omnitrans is launching its second D.I.Y. TV student commercial contest, an entirely online competition open to all students 13 or older living or attending schools or colleges in the transit agency’s 460-square-mile service area in San Bernardino County.
Contestants will post their 25-second original commercials encouraging students to ride Omnitrans at www.omnitrans.org/contest by March 27th. Each contestant can post up to 10 entries.
“We couldn’t have been happier with the response to our contest last year, and this year we hope to expand our reach to even more young adults in Omnitrans’ service area,” said Marketing Director Wendy Williams. “How better to reach out to the student market than to enlist the talents of students?”
In 2008, 29 contestants, including a number of students who created commercials as part of a class project, posted their original commercials encouraging students to ride Omnitrans buses. Combined, the videos were viewed more than 20,100 times. The 10 finalists’ videos can be viewed at www.omnitrans.org/contest/2008_winners.shtml.
Once this year’s videos are posted, online voting begins. Friends, family and peers will have a chance to weigh in before the contest closes on March 27th. The winning spot will be selected by Omnitrans from the top 10 finalists, based on Internet voting. The winning commercial will be shown on a ballpark big screen when the results are announced at an Inland Empire 66ers home game on May 2nd.
Along with seeing his or her commercial aired on TV and at the ballpark, the winner will also receive $1,000 cash.
The contest’s second and third place winners, which will be awarded to the commercials with the highest ratings after the winner is selected, will receive $500 and $250, respectively. All remaining finalists will win $100 each.
