Omnitrans CEO Rall to Retire

Rall photoSan Bernardino, CA – After 38 years in public transportation and 16 years at the helm of Omnitrans, CEO/General Manager Durand L. Rall will retire officially at the end of December 2009. He will serve as interim CEO on a consulting basis through January 2010 when the Omnitrans Board is expected to announce a new CEO.

Rall was appointed to the top job at Omnitrans in August 1993, serving the first nine months as Interim General Manager. 

\During his tenure at Omnitrans, the transit agency grew from 300 employees to over 700 today, and ridership more than doubled from 7 million annual boardings to over 15 million. The agency twice received the American Public Transportation Association’s Outstanding Transit System Award, in 1995 and 1999. 

“Omnitrans has been a great opportunity for me,” said Rall. “I have enjoyed a very supporting Board of Directors and senior staff which have greatly contributed to my success.” 

Before joining Omnitrans, Rall was Senior Vice President and Senior Regional Manager for ATE/Ryder Systems, Inc., for four years.  He oversaw 13 ATE transit management contracts in the western United States. Rall also worked for ATE as the General Manager of the Riverside Transit Agency in Riverside, California. Previously he worked as Assistant General Manager for SunTran in Tucson, Arizona, Director of Finance and Accounting for Tidewater Metro Transit, in Norfolk, Virginia and Assistant Finance Director at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Rall also served the industry through leadership positions, most notably three terms as Region VI Director of the American Public Transit Association (APTA), Chair and Executive Committee Member of the California Transit Association (CTA), Chair of the California Transit Finance Corporation, and Treasurer of the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority along with numerous other national and state industry committees.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Redlands, in Redlands, California.

Founded in 1976, Omnitrans is the public transit agency serving fifteen cities and the unincorporated areas of the Inland Valley of San Bernardino County in Southern California. Omnitrans currently operates 32 fixed bus routes in a
480-square-mile area. Omnitrans also provides OmniLink and Access
demand-response service, and is a partner in the Inland Empire Connection express bus service. The American Public Transportation Association has named Omnitrans the Outstanding Transit System of its size in both 1995
and 1999. Omnitrans also has received twelve safety awards from the
National Safety Council.
